triple banner, also steps

yo!
and~ here comes new -not so new- art, triple commission results for lovelessentertainment.. fortunately im saving some steps for the second banner (bottom) so i can share it abit here.

scenario: a girl running from a toasted cabin in night time.

fire? night and a cabin...now i need references..google time!

it is highly recommended to use photo references if u never make that kinda scene before yet.

and since i was into painty style, i thought it wud be powerful and stylish. tool: SAI

the client needs 799x200 pixel dimension, in case the pic wud look less detailed in that small dimension, i made it in double sized the actual dimension.

now the steps:
1] sketch! overall and composition sketch, looks like i dont need to say much of this

2] begin to fill the backgrounds..colored roughly to give it the mood, and i was only using 2 layers so far (outline n color)

3] when i fell all the color i need is painted over, i need to adjust the color in photoshop.. easy, using color balance was the most i do..and adding some glow effect on the fire to make it more shiny, using overlay layer above and soft air brush clicked, with a bright yellow color. i merged the overlay layer to the color layer so i wont get confused with many layers.

4] back to SAI again, finishing touch, paint over unwanted lines, highlight on girl's hair, and put more detail into backgrounds.. make new layers for shading part (multiply layer in lowered opacity) lastly i went to photoshop again to increase the lightness (hue/saturation) a bit, resize it into the correct size (50%), and sharpen it necessarily. and done!

hope that helps <3

progresses for "Sunset bliss.."

after so long delay..this is my second commission work progress for kampret again..it's been months ............orz

Watanuki(xxxholic) x Shaoran(tsubasa reservoir) yaoi pairing (yaoi again..^^; i oughtta draw women for refresher lol) ..but sorry the pose's not hot, only this pose came into mind ><

2) 3)
4a) 4b)
5>

1) lines first, as always..this time, i tried another style, quite messy, well..honestly im trying to mimic CLAMP's style on this work, so it's kinda bold and some parts in the shadow are all black
2) i try to imagine & make the mood, basic color and was trying to form the clouds in sunset lightning (it was an instant concept ^^> that time)
3) filling the characters color, yeah, a bit painting-ish, to match the messy outline as well.
4)a. tidy-up! look at the sky (haha it's just sky drawing exercise, pardon the mess), added details to the costume, and nearly finished
b. now before finishing..i need to adjust the color at photoshop, i used color balance at most, to correct the color and lighting as i want.
5) finish! see the difference with the last step and this one? look at this tutorial(step7: painting over lines) and u'll understand :D kinda tricky but works wonderfully.. haha actually i used this tuts too lol *smacked* ahh.. i guess im no match with this hardcore profesional artist ^^> ah i also lighten the pic so it doesnt

hope it helps!

add note:
ahh.. i really miss clamp's work, the last project i read was opening chapters of xxxholic and tsubasa reservoir..but i didnt continue my reading yet. i was a fan of CLAMP(esp. MKR & CCS) but not the stories they made lol. i usually liked their concept, setting and characters, prologue to mid story flow on each project but IMO they usually ruin the climax and ending..-_- i think they're doing good job though, in fact they sold a lot. prolly just not my kinda type of story i like hahaha^^a

Al, another cell shading steps (ongoing)

#41 commission for lijakaca:

the name's Al. a bit geeky but still looking good ^^
1) 2) 3)
4)

  1. very ROUGH sketch! hahaha, this is my specialty, MAKE A MESS...huh? speaking of eyesore, kay..i know, it's ugly
  2. got better view, dude? XD clean lines! (not so clean coz i only use round brush, not sharp brush) as the client want me to do cellshading, uoh i cant escape i guess haha. btw i actually resketch his leg coz i want him a bit in 3/4 top view perspective..tried to leave my comfort zone ^^ i hope it's not so bad ugh..cmon critique me!
  3. plain color first, then i put gradient to make it more dynamic (stolen that old man Soejima's tech again kyahaha /wahaha ) the sarong pattern taken from an indonesian blog, i'll put credits later. i think i dont need to make a guide for attaching a pattern in Photoshop right?^^>
  4. shading time, 1 color for outfits and 2 color depth for skin and hair, finishing step will be added later, this step's so far i've done.

scara commission's result and step by step

my #40 commission, client Scara

i wont write down all the description coz it's long, hmm it's like..a ninja group. this wud be a long way, since i saved a lot of steps this time :D now lets begin!

1) 2) 3)
4) 5) 6)

  1. rough sketch! this might looked dull, oh yes, coz i dont really get the image of all character (yep i'll the one creating the visual image of some characters, based on Scara's desc of course) i planned to make the most lineart traditionally, then it wont be too hard to color it ha ha.
  2. still sketch i guess, but tidier, changed the design of the guy a bit..hmm im eager to color this pic ><
  3. changed my mind for using traditional lines i've mentioned before, it was way too messy! instead, we gotten..cleanlines! huff..had hard times on this one i think..and this move really slowed me down.. /no took like 2 days, y'know, with procrastinations of course
  4. rough coloring with the 1 color shading~
  5. still 1 color shading but tidied
  6. deepen the shading with 1 more color, and almost finished! 1 more move!! /sweat

and here goes! the final result! added the fishnets, sunset lighting, effects?(a bit forgotten) not as shiny as i hoped though IMO, i ruin the backgrounds /floor

ah, hope it helps however! :)

tools:
manual-- recycled paper :P , cheap mechanical pencil
digital-- SAI (main), Adobe Photoshop CS3 (finishing)

thanks for reading!

today's submission...

inspired by pokefreak's blog, lol, looks like im gonna throw out some wips and projects along with my rantings haha~

#35 commission work, client kampret

belated eh..-_-; it has been such long time since she paid this pic fully, now i still hav 1 more pic for kampret to be done. so sorry..

the characters are based on Transformer the animation, Bumblebee and Prowl, kampret wanted me to humanize em and doing yaoi stuff =P

i started over once in sketching stage coz the sketch didnt seem good in composition. and u cud see theres a slight change of prowl from the first to second pic, kampret wanted him to be not seemed like eating bumblebee lol. the third and the second actually the same pic, just rescanned in bigger res and effects.

ahh kinda hard to make waist ups esp multiple character, but i'll always learning and i hope this still turned out good.. i need critics! :D thanks!
